Brow and forehead - Shallow settings soften horizontal lines and lift a heavy brow.
Cheeks and mid-face - Deeper settings warm the support layer that carries cheek volume.
Jawline and jowls - The setting most patients come for, along the jaw and under the cheek.
Under the chin - The submental area, where skin and soft tissue slacken first.
Neck - Treated in the same visit as the face, with the depth stepped down for thinner skin.
Fine lines and wrinkles - Dermal heating that smooths texture across the whole treated area.

How It Works

XERF is the first monopolar radiofrequency platform to fire two frequencies in the same shot. The manufacturer reports that 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz together warm the dermis, the fat layer beneath it and the deeper SMAS. That is the layer a surgeon lifts in a facelift.
Two frequencies (6.78 MHz + 2 MHz)
One shot carries both frequencies. The shallow and the deep layers heat together, so a single pass does the work that usually takes two settings.
Cooling and comfort (ICD + WaveFit)
Integrated Cryogen Delivery holds the skin surface cool while the heat goes in. The WaveFit pulse spreads energy over several shorter pulses instead of one intense burst.

How does XERF work?

XERF uses monopolar radiofrequency at two frequencies, 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz, delivered in one shot.
Three depth settings and ten intensity levels let your practitioner place the heat where the laxity is, from the dermis down to the SMAS.

Deep settings warm the support layer under the cheek and jaw, so the lower face looks firmer as collagen rebuilds.

WHAT IS

XERF

XERF is a medical-grade radiofrequency device from Cynosure Lutronic, launched in Europe in July 2026. The manufacturer calls it structural skin tightening. It is the first monopolar radiofrequency platform to deliver 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz in a single shot. It offers three depth settings, ten intensity levels and real-time impedance feedback. Integrated Cryogen Delivery cools the skin surface while the WaveFit pulse spreads the energy. Treatment needs no numbing cream and no needles. One pass reaches from the dermis down to the SMAS, the deep layer that holds the face up. A full face takes 45 minutes or less and there is no downtime afterwards.

Is XERF right for you?

XERF suits adults with mild to moderate skin laxity on the face or neck who want a firmer jawline without surgery. It is a good fit if you cannot take time off, dislike needles or have been put off by treatments that need numbing cream. The manufacturer states XERF is suitable for all skin types. Your practitioner confirms suitability, and anything in your medical history that matters, at consultation.

FAQs

What is XERF?

XERF is a monopolar radiofrequency treatment for loose skin on the face and neck. It is a medical-grade radiofrequency device from Cynosure Lutronic, launched in Europe in July 2026. The manufacturer calls it structural skin tightening. XERF warms the layers that support your skin, so your body lays down fresh collagen over the following weeks. No needles are used at any stage.

How does XERF work?

XERF delivers two radiofrequency frequencies, 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz, in a single shot. That combination warms the dermis, the fat layer beneath it and the deeper SMAS in one pass. Controlled heat prompts collagen remodelling. Three depth settings and ten intensity levels let your practitioner match the energy to each area of your face and neck.

Does XERF hurt?

Most people describe XERF as warm rather than sore, with little to no discomfort. The handpiece cools the skin surface through Integrated Cryogen Delivery, and the WaveFit pulse spreads energy over several shorter pulses instead of one intense burst. The manufacturer designed the treatment to be given without numbing cream. Tell your practitioner straight away if anything feels too warm.

Is there any downtime after XERF?

The manufacturer reports no downtime after XERF. Most patients go back to work, make-up and their normal routine the same day. Mild warmth or pink skin usually settles within a few hours. We go through aftercare with you before you leave and give you a number to call. Report anything unusual to the clinic.

How many XERF sessions will I need?

The manufacturer recommends two XERF sessions, four to six weeks apart, for the first course. Many patients then keep the result topped up with maintenance once or twice a year. The right number for you depends on your skin, your age and the areas treated. That plan is agreed at your consultation rather than fixed in advance.

When will I see results from XERF?

Some tightening can be felt soon after the first session. The real change builds gradually as collagen remodels over the weeks that follow. The manufacturer’s own before and after photographs are taken four weeks after two treatments, so that is a fair point at which to judge progress. We photograph your face at every visit so you can compare.

How long do XERF results last?

The manufacturer reports that XERF results typically last six to nine months. Skin carries on ageing, so most patients book a maintenance session once or twice a year to hold the improvement. How long your own result lasts depends on your skin, your age, sun exposure and lifestyle. No radiofrequency treatment stops the ageing process.

Who is XERF for?

XERF suits adults with mild to moderate laxity on the face or neck who want firmer skin without surgery or needles. It is often chosen by people in their thirties to sixties who cannot take time off work. The manufacturer states that XERF is suitable for all skin types. Your practitioner confirms suitability at your consultation.

Who should not have XERF?

Some circumstances mean XERF is not suitable, or needs to wait. They include pregnancy, an implanted electronic device such as a pacemaker, and metal implants in the area to be treated. An active skin infection or an open wound at the site also matters. Bring your full medical history and a list of your medicines. All of this is discussed at consultation.

Which areas of the face and neck can XERF treat?

XERF is used across the face and neck. The manufacturer lists the brow and forehead, the mid-face and cheeks, and the jawline and jowls. It also lists the area under the chin, the neck, and fine lines and wrinkles. A full face treatment takes 45 minutes or less. Your practitioner maps the areas with you at your consultation.

How is XERF different from other skin tightening treatments?

XERF uses monopolar radiofrequency at two frequencies at once. Ultrasound and focused ultrasound devices use sound energy instead, and radiofrequency microneedling drives energy through micro pins, so it involves needles and numbing cream. XERF needs neither. All of them aim to tighten skin by building collagen. The right choice depends on your skin and your priorities, and your consultation compares them honestly.

How much does XERF cost?

XERF at our Harley Street clinic starts from PRICE-TBC. The final figure depends on the areas treated and the number of sessions you agree. You get a written quote at your consultation before anything is booked. Our price promise means we will match any comparable quote, and 0% interest free finance is available.
